we have almost no say now. Everything is always a compromise when there's no need for every country to have the same rules all the time.

In fact, I'd suggest that Cameron's posturing is doing us more harm than good inside the EU. Even the more neutrally disposed nations towards us must get a bit fed up with the rhetoric.
Plus it was (IMO) always going to be the case that the euro-bound nations were going to tend to end up gravitating into a block together. That's simple psychology - they feel they have more common interests than they do with the countries who are in the EU but not the Euro.

Cameron's posturing is the last thing on the EU's mind at the moment.

Yes but that does mean that it is easier for people to migrate to where there is work and for companies to know what their rights and responsibilities will be when they trade overseas in the rest of the EU. If we could only get a common electrical plug standard we could buy from amazon.de or amazon.fr if they are cheaper.

Most electronics work on 110 or 240v these days. You could buy them there anyway and buy a 50p plug in the UK and rewire it yourself.

I could just as easily use adaptors, which I do for the odd device and light. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk.

Can you actually buy 'empty' 3 pin plugs any more? It's been the law that appliances have to have pre-fitted plugs for years. I can't imagine there's much of a market for 3 pin plugs in your hardware/diy shop any more.

I have a sack of them somewhere. My parents took them all off when they emigrated!

It's nearly impossible to buy a 'European or American' device that doesn't come with an adaptor IME
