I can see the future Mail headline if they aren't on it already.

How will they tell that there is a designated driver? While they do food, it does seem a slight reckless if there were an accident involving an over the limit driver though they cannot be responsible for that aspect.

How is it any different from any other pub situated next to a road?
It isn't.

True and it does not absolve us of personal responsibility either.

Why is it their responsibility - any more than M&S at the service stations selling beer / wine - they don't stop you buying it if you are a driver

I guess they're looking at the stag do/tour coaches and minibuses. Expect them to be raucous hellholes!

Only if they stay for hours, which is unlikely. 8-)

And at service station prices most people will take booze with them from home if the want it for getting wasted.

Though I do not see Wetherspoon's charging silly prices at their motorway service stops. Though generally I would agree. The last two times I was in a Wetherspoon's I had meals, as part of their deals of a meal plus a pint. That might be the plan for this stop. Food generally has higher profit margins than beer because of the duty.
