Iirc when I joined the union at the place I work, it was a simple tick box on the membership form to opt out of payments to the political fund.

That does seem to cover the political issue. Though will the politicians care?

I'm not sure accuracy and thoroughness are very high in the lexicon of the current political class.

Well who else are the unions going to support? No one.
As arrogant as New Labour politicians were, it was their move away from the loony left that made them electable. The further Labour move to the left, the more chance they have to losing middle class swing votes.

Yes but the extremists are now on the right of the party. They do need to move to the left but definitely not too far. As it stand right now the Liberals are to the left of Labour and still in the centre. labour leapfrogged the Liberals.
