From the BBC:

Quote:
A mother and her partner have been found guilty of murdering her four-year-old son, who had been beaten and starved. Daniel Pelka died from a head injury in Coventry in March 2012. During a nine-week trial at Birmingham Crown Court the boy's emaciated body was likened by a doctor to that of a concentration camp victim.

Quote:
Det Insp Chris Hanson, of West Midlands Police, said: "He was beaten, he was drowned, and he was poisoned with salt. "It was an absolutely wretched existence for him."

The Crown Prosecution Service said starving Daniel had been forced to steal food from fellow pupils and from school dustbins.

[LIFTED] scum. I hope they [LIFTED] die in jail. Anyone else been reading about this? It becomes rather difficult to argue against capital punishment when dealing with cases like this.

More here, but it is grim reading.

There are other failures like what were the teachers doing? They failed to contact social services. The deserve a very long sentence, and they will have a very tough time in gaol. I suspect that they will be rule 43 as soon as they enter the prison system.

This story just makes me incredibly sad for the poor boy.
Let's not get into pointing fingers at the teachers - "The trial heard Luczak played a leading role in convincing teachers and medical professionals that Daniel's dramatic weight loss was due to a rare genetic disorder."
I can promise you that they'll be asking themselves all those questions about what more they could've done, I wouldn't be surprised if a few are going to need counselling. An education officer did make a visit to the home, so clearly something prompted that.
Not a good day at work for anyone involved.

No the parents are scum. This is very similar to the Baby P story when doctors and social workers failed to spot problems.

There are plenty of CCTV pictures of him at Primary School plus evidence from at least one teacher about him scavenging for food. The family was visited a few times by health workers and school nurses but somehow managed to hoodwink them all.

The pictures of him running after his unspeakable 'mother' in the playground are grim.

I look forward to them being sorted out in prison.
