It might be handy for those that buy low value items regularly such as newspapers and coffee. I do not think I would want automatic check out in the Apple store.

The notion is that it’s easy, and removes the need to carry around large lumps of cash. I get the distinct impression that the idea of doing away with physical money is the long term goal here. Anyway, not going near this one. The harder it is to pay for something, the better. It makes you question if you really actually want it.

I'm not interested in security free electronic transactions. I don't want a system where money can be taken out of my account without me entering a pin number first.

Governments would love to be able to get rid of physical notes. Apart from the risks of theft and cost of producing it makes a bank bail in much easier to impose on everyone.

Well there will be cheap bank notes for snorting drugs available on eBay. Though will they be reclassified as drug paraphenalia now? Also big drug dealers now trade art works as they are more compact that big bundles of cash.
