Prohibited vehicles. Motorways MUST NOT be used by pedestrians, holders of provisional motorcycle or car licences, riders of motorcycles under 50 cc, cyclists, horse riders, certain slow-moving vehicles and those carrying oversized loads (except by special permission), agricultural vehicles, and powered wheelchairs/powered mobility scooters (see Rules 36 to 46 inclusive)

Yes I was actually surprised that they did not do more. I knew that motorways had restrictions on what vehicle could use them.

This morning on my way into work there was a bloke cycling up the A1.
Now, I grant that at that particular point it IS the A1 (not the A1(M) which starts less than a mile up the road) but it's still a 70 mph dual carriageway. In my opinion cyclists should be as prohibited from that type of road as they are from motorways. It's dangerous.
