Kim Jong-un presided over solemn memorials to mark the second anniversary of his father's death on Monday. One particular snapshot can provide us with insight into the leadership in the wake of the recent brutal purge of his uncle, Chang Song-thaek, explains North Korea leadership specialist Michael Madden.

What else is interesting about the 2013 photo is that only Kim Jong-un is standing on the line, Ri Sol-ju (his wife) seems a little further behind him, but not by much. The distance is more than in the 2012 picture, but that could be incidental. Everyone else is farther back, which is clearly deliberate.

It could be the picture of "All those not at risk of being shot this weekend stand still everyone else one step back."

I have a book - "The Commissar Vanishes" by (if I recall) David King. It documents how people were erased from photos in Stalin's time. Lots of non-Photoshop airbrushing used. Very interesting, and I expect similar history re-writing happens in N Korea.

There is plenty of airbrushing of history going on. Even here the Tories are trying to hide the fact that they would not cut spending before the election. Though we do not execute them and photoshop them out of the history books. Even today Japanese school history books do not mention the atrocities committed during WW2. Germany in that respect is much better in addressing their past.

Yes, it would be awful if stupid things we said in the past came back to haunt us wouldn't it?

I expect at least a country or two in Europe to collapse into revolution. Ireland will collapse but not sure if the public will rise up. Several east European countries will collapse, and Greece will probably become a military dictatorship again to restore order. Hungary looks very vulnerable as well. Though once the revolutions start watch the coalition abandon austerity just long enough to avoid problems here.
