A fridge has been discovered sending out spam after a web attack managed to compromise smart gadgets.

The fridge was one of more than 100,000 devices used to take part in the spam campaign.

Uncovered by security firm Proofpoint the attack compromised computers, home routers, media PCs and smart TV sets.

The attack is believed to be one of the first to exploit the lax security on devices that are part of the "internet of things".

How about disconnecting your fridge from your wifi/lan?
I would neve connect mine up in the first place, even if it did have that feature.

But... but.. then how will your fridge remind you to get some milk on the way home?

Or that someone had left the door open?

Well at the moment mine beeps and flashed the internal light if the door is left open for more than a minute.

Be fcuking handy in this house of morons.

What every fridge needs is a web cam inside so you can tell that the light is out when the door is closed. It’s vitally important that you can do this from your desk whilst at work.

I had wondered why I kept getting emails asking me to bring eggs and cola with me, when I come home.

I'd be more impressed if the fridges just started ordering lots of stuff. Every day.

What's the point of hacking a smart fridge if you aren't going to troll the owners a little bit?
