Boar you might be able to justify shooting, but how wild are the wild deer I wonder? I make no judgement there, but I'd be against shooting an animal just for the sake of it (at least eat the thing), 'sport' or not.

Yet another hypocrisy-that-isn't-hypocritical non-story from the Guardian.

It's no wonder they're slowly approaching oblivion.

The deer are probably wild and they need to be culled periodically to stop the numbers increasing too much. We have eliminated their main natural predator the wolves that would have done the job for us.

I believe it was Chris Packham who said that we’ve managed to make our wildlife convenient for human existence. That means to say we’ve removed all the animals that way want to eat or harm people. This is, as you say, why we need to cull deer as natural predators which would have controlled them no longer exist.

There are plans to reintroduce wolves to some land in the country, and I believe a campaign to reintroduce wild boar.

I hope that they do.
