It's true for once! Though the CPS is still prone to cases of butterflies in the stomach...

"Should these prosecutions have taken place? Of course. Parliament agrees, as it has set no time limit on bringing rape and sexual offence cases, as it has for other offences. The public would be horrified if we did not prosecute because a complaint came many years after the event," she said.

I think that the public are still waiting for them to prosecute the banks for all the mis-selling scandals which could be described elsewhere as fraud or racketeering.

Or indeed the large number of MPs for whom there was significant evidence of embezzlement.

I am really struggling with this entire thing. At no time have I read anything about "evidence" which I was under the impression had to be provided in order to secure prosecution. Everybody basically hung Jimmy Saville out to dry because he's too dead to defend himself, some people got rich off a foundation he created and did a lot of charity work for, based on the 'word' of people remembering things from many years ago and still no evidence.

Since when did it become the case that all it takes is for someone to go to the police and say "so-and-so assaulted me 30 years ago, but I've got no proof" and suddenly there's a prosecution? I've been watching this one carefully, waiting for some evidence to actually show up, but so far all that's happened is that a lot of people's names and reputations have been dragged through the mud of the popular press, they've been arrested, prosecuted, 'brought in for questioning' and then let go again.

The whole thing stinks like last weeks gym socks.

Most sexual assault cases come down to one person's word against another. The alternative is to make it a crime for which hardly any prosecutions are ever brought.
