And in the premier snowboarding event, the men's half-pipe, there's a shock as possibly the biggest name in winter sports Shaun White fails to even get a medal, as Japan take bronze (Taku Hiraoka) and silver (Ayumu Hirano) while the Russian-turned-Swiss Iouri Podlatchikov finally emerges from years in white's shadow to get gold with a staggering run that earns 94.75 out of 100.

Gold and Silver piling up over here.
German 1-2 in the Luge and a German won the first ever women's Olympic ski jump.
When I saw the news yesterday morning, Germany were 5th, interesting top of the table, US and Russia pushed out by Canada.

Lizzie Yarnold is walking the Skeleton Bob. In fact, at this rate I think she'd still win if she actually did walk it. In an event where 0.1 of a second is considered a significant lead, she has a lead of 0.8 of a second over second place with one more run to go.
Edit : I misread how the competition is judged. Apparently though each run is considered separately, it's the total time of the four runs that matters for the medal. while technically Potylitsina of Russia is currently in first place, Yarold currently has a comfortable margin of error for her final run.

We're number one (well, the country where i live)! That shocked me. I was expecting Canada, USA and Russia to be ahead.

I did notice Germany did very well in the 'several people sliding down a hill on a tea tray' event. That's possibly the most bizarre thing in an event filled with rather strange sports.

Medal! Team GB's women's curling team win the bronze after a tense match against Switzerland. It went into the last end all even but play fell out to leave Eve Muirhead with a relatively straightforward shot to score a single point and earn the win. If the men's team win gold tomorrow, Scotland will have earned as many medals in curling as the rest of Britain has in all the other sports . Best photo...

Don't say things like that, it'll only encourage Alec Salmond As proud as I am of the Scottish participants, it is Team GB and we're all in it together* *for the time being, at least

OOf. Team GB's men's curling are down 5-1 to Canada after 3 ends. That's going to be hard to come back from.
Somehow, winning a match to get bronze feels better than losing one to get silver..
EDIT : Final score Canada 9 GB 3. Ouch. Silver it is.
