http://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/m ... -burma-bbcI gave up months ago - did it come across as deliberate? From what I hear, the show's become so dull that it needs the controversy.

I wasn't even aware that the word "slope" had any racist connotations.
To me they were commenting on the way the top of the bridge was angled. Because it was.

I think I'd first heard it in Vietnam films.
I've seen the clip, and considering there probably isn't a bit of that show that isn't scripted and their past 'slurs'... I'd be very surprised if some guy just happened to be walking across this new (?) bridge in what looks like the middle of nowhere (it was only only a short clip). It did look as staged as most of the things they do, but then I suppose it would!

As far as I'm aware, scripting something for the camera is not racism. Nor is using the correct english word for something, which coincidentally might mean something unpleasant in the local language. Racism is in the intent of use of the word, not the letters which go to make it up.

I doubt 99% of viewers would even know 'slope' can be viewed as a racist term. I certainly didn't.

This was news to me too. I just thought the reference was to obviously wonky bridge.

Me neither - this sounds like some minor actor no one has ever heard of making waves to raise his profile
