My mother was a personnel manager and had to go to ACAS several times in the 80s and 90s. She was mainly positive about the process and the dealings were generally well handled and they came out with mutual agreements that was good for both sides. Sometimes they would have to pay compensation, but often the employee had no case and the ACAS proceedings saved both sides large legal bills.
