/Facepalm.
Nobody should be forced to do science at least no more than they're forced to have a general education. Everyone should know how (for example) things are likely to move under a force, or that chemicals mixed together can have untoward consequences for the same reason we require everyone to be able to read and write and do basic sums - you need to know a certain amount of science to be a proper functioning member of society. But forcing people to go beyond that, for whatever reason is a self-defeating action. Peopel who dont' want to do things aren't motivated to do them well and therefore probably do them badly. That's true of all learning.
or for example the gender imbalance in teaching, particularly in younger age groups. All of these things are bad, whichever direction they run in.
