I doubt Clarkson and Top Gear have much to worry about. They're unlikely to make any substantial changes unless the audience starts turning off - it might be getting a bit stale, in my opinion, but it's a long way from being in danger.
The "slope" comment didn't register with me as a slur, but I'd agree that casual racism doesn't belong on the telly. Poking fun at cultural references about the Vietnamese eating dogs, Mexicans being lazy or the Korean/Chinese labour force consisting entirely of sweat-shops is a different matter, again IMO. How many times have we heard him slagging off the West Midlands because he jokes that their militant/lazy attitude wrecked the British car industry? Grow a thicker skin, ffs.
I think we've reached a tipping point between what the nanny state deems acceptable and just how much crap we're willing to swallow. Top Gear appears to have enough mass to challenge the PC brigade's grip on the entertainment industry. Long may it continue.
