Apparently it's so good you'll feel like you're minted whilst avoiding tax and asking other people for millions ;)

To make FLAC really good they need to improve the source they encode it from

Surely lossless audio file compression is just about dead by now? Increases in internet bandwidth and storage, plus the continuing drop in price per TB of storage means that the minimal spacing savings are irrelevant.

Lossless compression? No, because storage is still finite. Especially on mobile devices. I would agree, there shouldn't be any more need for lossy compression.

What Apple and U2 seem to be working on is a new format for music, not a new encoding codec. I.e. how the music is packaged, what extras etc. come with it, how they can improve the experience, not how they can compress the hell out of the music.

You can improve your experience of music by not listening to U2.

It does seem particularly amusing that a band with a reputation for (music taste / ability aside here) making the most atrocious quality recordings should be involved in such an enterprise.

I have to admit, I don't think I could name a single hit off the top of my head.
