You have a month to downgrade to Windows 8.1 if Windows 10 isn't right for you | TechRadar

Surely it should just be an option full stop? Though that wouldn't suit MS.

If you have no say in updates I'm not touching it.

This is the roll back. There is nothing stopping you re-installing Windows 7 or Windows 8 on the PC afterwards.

Looking at small SSDs these days, it might have something to do with freeing up space. Do you really want you 64GB/128GB SSD cluttered up with a 20 - 40GB Windows 7/8 backup image for the next 5 years? Good, on a desktop with a 4TB drive, it can sit there forever and you probably wouldn't notice it, but given the storage on many mobile devices, I would think it is more about freeing up space.

I was planning to update my windows 7 laptop to windows 10 as I've lost my windows 7 dvd and I wanted a fresh install. I've kind of changed my mind as a mate is lending me his DVD. (I have my own legit CD key). I like windows 7 and see no reason to change yet. Maybe I'll see what it's like when my wife's lap goes from 8 to 10.

Windows 10 to get free security fixes for a decade | TechRadar

They really need to get a PR company to handle their sh1t, it's been especially bad since the Xbone launch.

The problem at the moment seems to be incredibly poor journalism. One blogger misreads a blog post and it spreads like wild fire that they are going to charge you after a year or you will have to pay for updates etc.

The ones who tend to get it right (Computer Active for instance) are just as confused as anyone. Definitive messages from one source would be a bloody good idea, instead of blog posts and snippets from interviews. That's all fine when you want the net to promote your movie for you for free, but not an operating system billions of dollars relies on.
