Waterstones takes Kindles off shelves due to 'pitiful' sales | TechRadar http://www.techradar.com/news/mobile-co ... es-1306227Hmmm. Could just be that it's quite hard to take the Kindle much further, like phones. Also, the Voyage is laughably priced.

They've all gone from my local branch. I expect people are questioning the need to put batteries in a book.

Amazon built-in obsolesence in 5.. 4.. 3.. 2..
The Kindle app is available for every type of tablet, and few people are ever far enough away from a power source to value the extended battery life of a kindle e-reader; plus, Amazon's Kindle tablets are far too locked down for people to really enjoy (IMO).

I love my kindle paperwhite, is the dog's bollocks. But I'd never replace it until it died, there's just no need.

That is the biggest issue for me and why I have not got one I would like one for the commute / holidays to make my bag lighter(I have a Nexus 10 but that's a bit heavy to hold one handed and as a tablet its not as nice to read as a book / ebook) I have thought of getting one of the others (Nook) as they are not locked down and then just "converting" any books I buy to epub

I've got a Kindle and convert to epub, problem is it doesn't always come out so great. I've never tried going from epub to mobi...

Probably because most people who will buy a Kindle are already Amazon users and buy it direct?
We have 4 at home...

+1. I had no idea Waterstones sold them. Buying from Amazon is precisely what I did.

Originally, Waterstones had an almost Apple Store kind of set up for Kindles. Then it got scaled back to a shelf with them all demanding to be charged. Recently, they all were replaced with the usual Christmas gifts/books.
