Can you find an alternative site for your links, I have to answer a damned questionnaire every time I click on one of these links, before it will show the story.

A questionaire at your end? Or on the site?

Questionnaires are starting to be the new advertising tactic. I'm seeing them more and more now. They block the content and won't reveal it until you answer.

Oh, FFS. That's intelligent. I run Adblock on just about every site now due to that sort of idiocy. Is it any wonder even Apple are letting it happen...

As a friend of mine tweeted

Quote:
One :
1. Try to make money by showing appallingly awful adverts, often with malware
2. Your users install adblockers
3. Go bust
4. Blame users

Quote:
Two:
1. Expect things for free
2. Companies making your things go bust
3. Blame companies

You don't get to have nice things if you don't pay for them, because nice things cost money to make. Any other way of doing things is bound to fail eventually.

Ad blockers won't help as instead of being separate, these are an intrinsic part of the page. This is the way advertising is going. Instead of the browser summoning content from a variety of servers, you'll find the web server doing that job and the ads will be served as local content. I expect more ads to take this to circumvent as blockers that filter content according to URL or server.

Content blockers, such as those available for iOS, can block file types, such as css, JavaScript, fonts, etc.. They can't easily distinguish between those files responsible for adverts and those responsible for desired content.

Ah, so NoScript is presumably blocking it at my end. I only ever let it run the bare minimum for both safety and practicality. I've never seen questionnaires on websites yet! This sort of thing is why I still stick to bloated Firefox.

Nobody minds ads if they sit there doing nothing, but bringing a page to it's knees at the consumer end, or taking over the page is hardly the way to go.

On the site the headline is displayed, then the questionnaire underneath and grey stripes, with the words "Fill in the questionnaire to read further"

Charming. I'll see what I can do, probably just copy and paste the article since they tend to be short.

Adblock for Safari seems to be doing the job of blocking the questionnaire for me.

Didn't see it on my iPad and I don't have an ad blocker installed.
