It's interesting that Hollande has described it as an 'act of war' rather than terrorism. In international law, an act of war effectively gives France a free hand in response. If France was a member of NATO, that would also in effect require any NATO ally to join in with anything they decided to do. France of course isn't a member of NATO - and has overtly refused to take part in NATO operations in the past - but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this fact was quietly ignored in the future. Cameron for one appears to have been itching to get a nice war on his CV before he steps down.

Not that I'm suggesting any sort of conspiracy - I'm sure the people who did this were actually nutters who did it for whatever twisted reason they came up with themselves - but politicians are nothing if not opportunist.

France rejoined NATO in 2009.

Rogers abandoned humanity some time before that.
This sort of atrocity is invariably intended to cause as much discord as grief.
Race wars are not a desirable response.

Quote:
'LET FRANCE KNOW THEY ARE AT THE TOP OF THE TARGET LIST': ISIS STATEMENT IN FULL

'In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Beneficent.

Allah said: They thought that their fortresses would protect them from Allah, but Allah came upon them from where they had no expected, and He cast terror into their hearts so they destroyed their houses by their own hands and the hands of the believers. So take warning, O people of vision.

In a blessed battle whose causes of success were enabled by Allah, a group of believers from the soldiers of the Caliphate (may Allah strengthen and support it) set out targeting the capital of prostitution and vice, the lead carrier of the cross in Europe - Paris.

This group of believers were youth who divorced the worldly life and advanced towards their enemy hoping to be killed for Allah's sake, doing so in support of His religion, His Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) and His allies. They did so in spite of His enemies.

Thus, they were truthful with Allah - we consider them so - and Allah granted victory upon their hands and cast terror into the hearts of the crusaders in their very own homeland.

And so eight brothers equipped with explosive belts and assault rifles attacked precisely chosen targets in the centre of the capital of France. These targets included the Stade de France stadium during a soccer match - between the teams of Germany and France, both of which are crusader nations - attended by the imbecile of France (Francois Hollande).

The targets included the Bataclan theatre for exhibitions, where hundreds of idolaters gathered for a concert of prostitution and vice. There were also simultaneous attacks in the tenth, eleventh and eighteenth districts, and elsewhere.

Paris was thereby shaken beneath the crusaders' feet, who were constricted by its streets. The result of the attacks was the deaths of no less than two hundred crusaders and the wounding of even more. All praise, grace and favour belong to Allah.

Allah blessed our brothers and granted them what they desired. They detonated their explosive belts in the masses of the disbelievers after finishing all their ammunition. We ask Allah to accept them amongst the martyrs and to allow us to follow them.

Let France and all nations following its path know that they will continue to be at the top of the target list for the Islamic State and that the scent of death will not leave their nostrils as long as they partake in the crusader campaign, as long as they dare to insult our Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him), and as long as they boast about their war against Islam in France and their strikes against Muslims in the lands of the Caliphate with their jets, which were of no avail to them in the filthy streets and alleys of Paris.

Indeed, this is just the beginning. It is also a warning for any who wish to take heed.

Allah is the greatest.'

Not the first time a religious nutter has made such decrees. You will, of course, know from your history lessons that Pope Urban II was quite keen on the idea of rocking up in a foreign country and having a go.

A rousing speech in or around 1895, Pope Urban II was asked by the Byzantine emperor for some help against some troubling Turks. The speech was recorded and translated by a number of people, the texts being here: http://www1.cbn.com/spirituallife/calli ... st-crusade

He said quite a few interesting things.

Quote:
For, as the most of you have heard, the Turks and Arabs have attacked them and have conquered the territory of Romania [the Greek empire] as far west as the shore of the Mediterranean and the Hellespont, which is called the Arm of St. George. They have occupied more and more of the lands of those Christians, and have overcome them in seven battles. They have killed and captured many, and have destroyed the churches and devastated the empire. If you permit them to continue thus for awhile with impurity, the faithful of God will be much more widely attacked by them. On this account I, or rather the Lord, beseech you as Christ's heralds to publish this everywhere and to persuade all people of whatever rank, foot-soldiers and knights, poor and rich, to carry aid promptly to those Christians and to destroy that vile race from the lands of our friends. I say this to those who are present, it meant also for those who are absent. Moreover, Christ commands it.

All who die by the way, whether by land or by sea, or in battle against the pagans, shall have immediate remission of sins. This I grant them through the power of God with which I am invested. O what a disgrace if such a despised and base race, which worships demons, should conquer a people which has the faith of omnipotent God and is made glorious with the name of Christ! With what reproaches will the Lord overwhelm us if you do not aid those who, with us, profess the Christian religion! Let those who have been accustomed unjustly to wage private warfare against the faithful now go against the infidels and end with victory this war which should have been begun long ago. Let those who for a long time, have been robbers, now become knights. Let those who have been fighting against their brothers and relatives now fight in a proper way against the barbarians. Let those who have been serving as mercenaries for small pay now obtain the eternal reward. Let those who have been wearing themselves out in both body and soul now work for a double honor. Behold! on this side will be the sorrowful and poor, on that, the rich; on this side, the enemies of the Lord, on that, his friends. Let those who go not put off the journey, but rent their lands and collect money for their expenses; and as soon as winter is over and spring comes, let hem eagerly set out on the way with God as their guide.

So, really, the rhetoric isn’t that different and the language is about as florid too. IOK, IS is about 1000 years later, but Islam is a younger religion, and as David Starkey has mentioned in the past, it’s going through its own form of mediaeval times (which fits with my own views that it’s entering an Inquisition phase). Of course, you really don’t want a bunch of people in that phase to have access to much by way of weaponry, but you’ll no doubt be please to know that those who answered Urban II’s call to arms had some pretty inventive kit and novel ideas for dealing with “the pagans”.

Surely the point of that is that the Islam of today should learn the lessons of the Christianity of the past, and therefore should have enough about them to entirely skip the whole 'inquisition phase' - which, you know, probably isn't going to turn out all that well for anybody. The people who want this violence to continue are not doing so due to religion, they're doing so out of naked self interest disguised as religion. The people leading both sides are creating this environment because it gives them power and wealth. You can't be a warlord if there isn't any war. You can't order civilians around, but you can order soldiers around. Politicians who start wars oddly tend to get re-elected more often, at least for the first few years.

Unfortunately, stupidity is distributed unevenly throughout the species and so there are some people who have accumulated enough stupid to think getting killed for somebody else, or killing innocent people for somebody else, is anything less than the most idiotic notion.

I see Cameron waited a whole 24 hours before using the deaths of innocent people as an excuse to throw us back into the turgid mess that is Syria. I find myself astonished to agree with the leader of the Lib Dems. It seems an utterly ludicrous premise that if the big piles of bombs the Russians, Americans and French have already dropped on Syria haven't solved the problem, its because there just weren't enough bombs being dropped and the few dozen extra the UK could contribute will be enough to tip the balance. Apparently we don't have enough money for our hospitals, schools or libraries. We don't have enough money to look after the young, the old, or the people on our streets who have no home to live in or food to eat. But we can always find a few million quid to literally burn by throwing the few bombs at some godforsaken patch of desert in the hope they'll hit someone who already hates us, rather than someone who didn't hate us until we started bombing them.

The events in Paris make me sick. The reaction of certain politicians (Lord Carlisle for one) only reinforce my sense of nausea.

Small golfclap for Cameron for stating the obvious insofar as ISIS will never go away while Syria is warzone. Beyond that, Jesus wept.

Football games in Germany (against The Netherlands) and Belgium (against Spain) were both called off at the last minute due to terror warnings from security services.

The BBC link is just a quick note, the German link goes into much more detail.

No arrests and no explosives have been found yet.

Interestingly, the people were told to turn around and go home and they did so, quietly and without panic.
