US Fed raises interest rates by 0.25% - BBC News http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-35117405Be interesting to see if we freak out after clearly being scared silly of raising rates - and for good reason.

pah! 0.5%! Worry? Why? When I bought my house the rates were around 18%.
Still I'm glad we have renegotiated our mortgage with a low rate for the next 10 years.

I'm assuming inflation and wage increases were high then too. That would help as the real of mortgage to income would drop quickly after a few years.

The week after I bought my 1st house they hit 15% (and inflation was around 8%)
Now I am on a tracker as a % over base rate and loving the current low interest rates

I live in the north, so my house didn't cost a completely ludicrous sum of money, so changing the interest rate by a fraction of a percent doesn't actually cause me any trouble.

Just as my 5 year fixed rate is coming to an end...

Well unless you've got a mortgage from the USA the Fed rate decision shouldn't really do anything to the rates in the UK until the BoE follows suit. Mind you, that doesn't mean the banks won't jump the gun and start raising their rates.

Mine is coming to an end in a couple of years, but we just negotiated a renewal in advance. Our rates are a bit higher than currently available (to cover the rest of the term), but are then locked for the next 10 years.

Which is exactly what I'm expecting from them.
