So, the car didn't alert the police to a drunk driver, it alerted them to a crash... The driver just happened to be drunk.
This has been a feature in the USA for a decade and Vauxhall/Opel now build Onstar into their European cars and Ford and others have their system as well, it is supposed to be a legal requirement going forward.
