I love threads like this . means I have to think about somrthing i take for granted ,here in Spain it is not illegal to download a copy for my own personal use ,it's only when I share or sell that I get trouble .
;)

Same here, I can also give away a "reasonable" number of copies of non-DRMed tracks as gifts to friends or family (the Justice Minister said "reasonable" = about 10 copies). Sharing on-line is illegal, because you cannot guarantee that less than 10 people will take copies... Especially if it is David Hasselhof's Greatest Hits!

PCErnie, I believe that some studios do already have deals with Google over GoogleTubing videos of artists or official channels for some programmes.

IIRC it's the same over here. They get you based on the fact that bitorrent and other p2p technologies actually share whilst downloading.
I believe it's due to the licence you have about not being able to transmit the works over networks. Although ripping a CD you've bought to your HDD is also against copyright over here as you have the rights to listed to the music on the medium of CD but not change the medium it's on.

That is the lines they take here, with regard to FTP sites and P2P networks.

As to CD ripping, it is legal here, as long as there isn't any copy protection on the disc.

Re music vids. Yip, but they're still having fallouts I believe, with some of the bigger groups walking away altogether and not letting any of their vids be shown IIRC.

Not letting people see something that's created for promotional use and is put down as advertising. Doh.
S'pose it's due to people ripping the sound from them.

I've only ever done it with a chicken so far, but if required I wouldn't have any problems doing it with other animals at all.

Maybe, but I wonder if those pulling the vids even realise that can be done ;)

I always question the figures for 'illegal downloading' (the whole issue is a legal minefield) - I'd be amazed if 'Joe Average' knew where to begin with P2P, especially of a downloaded film that leaves him with an AVI file :?
