You only need to learn to dock once. It may be a little tedious, but it's not that hard! I played the Electron version for countless hours. Back at college in '89 we had a little club going. I'm pretty sure I made Elite, but only about 5 years after the prize ended. However, that may be wishful thinking. In theory, I have the evidence on a C15 cassette somewhere... And yes, my Electron still works

My first copy of Elite was the Electron version. My Electron turned out to be a hunk of junk - it was being repaired more than being used during its warranty period, so I got my money back and bought a BBC B. I was given an Electron a few years back, complete with a Plus 1 and a Plus 3, and that one works fine.

I bought mine from "Bull Electrical of Essex" for £30 as surplus stock. I bought a lot of junk from that place, but he Electron was probably the best value for money I ever had I inherited a plus 1 from KindaWobbly when his Electron died. I have floppy drives, but unfortunately no interface. They work fine on my BBC B which I acquired many years later, but by that time I had a 8088 compatible with 3.5" 1.44MB drives. Shame it only had CGA graphics, but I was only interested in Microsoft by then. A 3.5" floppy changed my life

Just noticed I still have the original boxed version on my shelf with manual etc - only thing is the game is on a CD so obviously I must have lost the original floppy. (PC version)

I never mastered that. Somehow my brain did not cope with the keyboard controls.

I had (have) a set of the infamous ANH01 analogue joysticks from Acorn. They worked in tandem - one joystick controlled direction, the other controlled the speed. It was a bit awkward - I normally played Elite with a digital joystick.

I played with a mouse on the Arc version in school and used to stay til gone 6 most evenings at one stage. My parents thought I was doing loads of homework! On the Arc version with the mouse, there was no auto-centre so when docking you got the right amount of roll and then held her steady all the way. I tried Oolite and you have to constantly adjust the trim. Very awkward and tbh I got bored super quickly. A proper "re-imagining", nevermind graphics, but to take account of advances in control devices and physics engines would be delightful. An old school friend of mine works for David Braben's company in Cambridge, but he won't tell me anything

My docking technique was to line up with the space station and go in at full speed. Worked every time believe it or not. Of course there were times when something would leave the space station as I was entering.

I had a mouse replacement joystick on my Arc. The Archimedes version was seen as the best version of the game.

Having played the BBC, Arc and a couple of versions for the PC made years ago, the Arc is the best out of that bunch IMO.
