I would think that they that have a reasonable case. The bank asks for a huge infusion of money to avoid problems and that still does not save the business. The banks should have been allowed to go bankrupt and then the government could take control and then separate the bad debts and then sell the bank network with its customers. Or run the banks for a while and only sell them once the bank had repaid the losses to the government. That way the tax payer would not end up out of pocket.
