I do hope so but I think that we are all in for a painful recovery. Businesses will need to re-capitalise and de-lever themselves. That means jobs will not be the first priority for businesses. They will want to stabilise their future. Only then will they start recruiting. Though the possible good news is that there will be an improvement in exports which will help.

Yes but he was the one who set up the regulation regime which failed to identify the problems. So in many ways he deserves the blame for the impact on the economy. Northern Rock had a lousy business model which the regulators should have stamped on. Then the same applies to many of the other banks and building societies.
