You know it's bad when MPs think 'Fcuk, that's steep!'

They wouldn't care, it'd go on expenses.
They only reason they go on about it so they can try to make themselves look good with the public.

Even the expenses committee would have to go '£1k for a train journey!?' though

Who would want to take that train anyway. You can fly to anywhere in the UK from Cornwall (via London) in a lot less time.

You'd possibly be the walking definition of 'impulse buyer', wouldn't you?

I've got it!
It's a ticket especially designed for rich men who are getting divorced. You want to get away from it all and you want to spend money so the wife can't get it in the settlement.
It's a working theory anyway.

Rail fares are a joke. I flew to Rome this year for less than it would cost me to get a train from Notts to London.

I thought they had introduced the equivalent of the BahnCard 100 (100% off all rail journines for a year)... 1 trip?

It’s cheaper to drive, unless you have some kind of megalithic oil burner.

I'm not sure if there are any people in Newquay who have £1000 to spend on a train ticket because they suddenly and desperately need to get to Kyle of Lochalsh :?

In that situation, I might rent a car for a fraction of the price, or try a Top Gear style buy-a-Micra-and-drive-there for less than £1000.

OR buy a car, fill it up with petrol, drive up and back down and sell it on again. It would still cost you less than £1000.
