Last time I checked 97% of Mozilla's income was from Google as Google is the default search engine in FF.
Maybe not quite shooting yourself in the foot, but he's loaded the gun and taken aim.

If they get revenue from Bing as well, in the long run, why not?

Google has a virtual monopoly over here, the last statistics I saw said Google accounts for over 98% of all searches!

Bing is still lagging on local content, when it first launched, the nearest Ford dealer to me, according to Bing, was in New York State! Google said it was 300M away! It is improving, but its outside Americaness is still poor...

MS are paying companies to impose Bing on their users, many corporates are being offered credits on their Software Assurance, if they lock the users into Bing. Why not pay Mozilla for searches from Firefox?
