"Rebellion is disappointed that its upcoming title Aliens vs. Predator has been banned in Australia. However, as we understand the law in that country the authorities had no choice as we agree strongly that our game is not suitable for game players who are not adults.

"The content of AvP is based on some of the most innovative and iconic horror movies, and as such we wanted to create a title that was true to the source material. It is for adults, and it is bloody and frightening, that was our intent. We will not be releasing a sanitized or cut down version for territories where adults are not considered by their governments to be able to make their own entertainment choices."

8-)

The Aussie game players must be livid at this continuing nonsense :(

+1 for the quote in bold. Someone tell Kevin Rudd where his government can shove their obvious contempt for grown adults.

I have this game on pre-order, it looks excellent. 8-)

Can't Aussies download games like this from Steam rather than buying them in the shops?

I doubt they're available on Steam - Valve would quickly find themselves in hot water.

You don't need to impale in games - Australian Attorney General slams violent games

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/ar ... ?id=229331

Quote:
By now you'll have heard that Aliens vs Predator was refused classification Down Under, which means it's as good as banned. But that hasn't stopped the man behind the ban, Attorney General Michael Atkinson, explaining the decision.

Speaking about the growing number of calls for an adult videogame rating (Australia has adult ratings for movies), Atkinson said, "This is a question of a small number of very zealous gamers trying to impose their will on society. And I think harm society. It's the public interest versus the small vested interest.

"I accept that 98%, 99% of gamers will tell the difference between fantasy and reality, but the 1% to 2% could go on to be motivated by these games to commit horrible acts of violence. You don't need to be playing a game in which you impale, decapitate and dismember people."

'A small number of very zealous gamers trying to impose their will on society. And I think harm society.'? - You mean they wanna be allowed to make their own, adult decisions, like they already do with films like Hostel etc? How will that harm society exactly? It'll certainly bring in billions of Aussie dollars if you let it...

'It's the public interest versus the small vested interest.' - Quite, and it's YOU with the small vested interest

'I accept that 98%, 99% of gamers will tell the difference between fantasy and reality, but the 1% to 2% could go on to be motivated by these games to commit horrible acts of violence.' - 'Could go on...' He knows about the rest of the world and severe lack of proof, right? I like the way 'small numbers of people' have such an effect on this guy's reasoning...

'You don't need to be playing a game in which you impale, decapitate and dismember people.' - No, you don't NEED to, but it can be great fun, you know, like scary, violent films? Few people get on a rollercoaster for the view
