Quote:
Davies, MP for Shipley and "parliamentary spokesman" for the Campaign Against Political Correctness lobby group, also asked:

• Whether the Metropolitan Black Police Association breaches discrimination law by restricting its membership to black people. He compared this to the BNP's whites-only policy, which the far-right party has now agreed to change.

• Whether the women-only Orange prize for fiction discriminates against men. • Whether it was racist for a policeman to refer to a BMW as "black man's wheels".

• Whether it was lawful for an advert for a job working with victims of domestic violence to specify that applicants had to be female and/or black or ethnic minority.

• Whether a "Miss White Britain" competition or a "White Power List" would be racist, after Phillips justified the existence of Miss Black Britain prizes and the Black Power List. "Is there any difference legally or morally than publishing a white list? Do you think this entrenches division?"

• Whether anti-discrimination laws ought to be extended "to cover bald people (and perhaps fat people and short people)".

They seem like perfectly sensible questions to me, especially as I doubt Joe Average has any idea what should be considered racist or not. I'd suggest all parties concerned publish what's been discussed as widely as possible :)

It seems Davies has raised some perfectly legitimate but uncomfortable questions and is now being vilified for it.

It's political correctness gone mad.

I'm glad an MP has finally brought this up, they're perfectly reasonable and logical questions to ask.

Not only are they justifiable on their own they also point out that much of PC, although sometimes misguidedly well intentioned, could actually do more harm than good by creating a polarity of view where one did not exist before.

The whole point of equality is to avoid such things as discrimination, not highlight and accentuate them.

While we're at it, can Sheila's Wheels refuse to insure me because I'm a man? And why can't I even think about going on a Saga holiday for another 20 years? And don't theme park rides discriminate against people with dwarfism with height restrictions? Plus, why can't I use a female toilet if the gents is busy? Surely that's discrimating against men?

Theme parks can do it because it's a (not unreasonable) health and safety issue.

The rest can all go screw themselves.

I think it's fair enough.

This sort of stuff really annoys me too - some people seem to think that equality means they are treated preferably. My mum is a good example - you'd think women had no rights the way she goes on!

I've been told that when I win bomberman and scream "WHITE SUPREMACY!!" it's racist, but when my housemate wins (Player 4) and screams "BLACK SUPREMACY!!" it's fine.

Disgrace.

That's equality.
