Pointless.
People can book their tickets early or online and collect them from a machine at the station.
If they don't mind a bit of a queue, they could get them from a machine on the day.

The problem is that many people who are not familiar with rail travel are not sure what ticket is appropriate for them and without assistance often pay over the odds for a ticket they don't need.
