I've no problem with spending money on the promotion of the site, but is it too dear do we think? :?

I suspect no matter how bad the ad is(n't), it won't be as annoying as the sort that find their way onto radio, or gets ignored in the newspapers (tax returns, family credits etc)...

Well I don't really know enough about it to be honest.

How does it compare to other advertising campaigns? I haven't got a clue how much airtime £1m will buy, but I doubt it's a lot.

It all depends on what time of day you want to advertise at.
Prime time TV is much more expensive than at any other time of the day.
As an example, during the final of The X Factor, 30 second slots were selling for around £250,000.

I don't know a lot about marketing and related budgets, but given how things in the public sector usually pan out compared to their private sector counterparts this is probably small beans.

The £1m only covers the broadcasting cost of the ad, which features stars like Dame Helen Mirren and Kelly Brook.

The advertisement ... also features Honor Blackman, Christopher Biggins, Nick Moran and Suggs.

I'd imagine that those "celebs" won't be giving their time from the kindness of their hearts either, I wonder how much a "fraction of a commercial rate" is.
