The Scottish Government said more than 60,000 quit attempts were made in 2008-09 and 23,126 people managed to kick the habit.
And how many new teenagers started to smoke? Or is that a net reduction?

The logical route would be to heavily tax alcohol and fatty foods...

Russel Grant's on TV at the minute, and by the look of him he'd have to leave the country then

That's not a message of support either ;) , as I am also fatter than I should be :)

Agreed.

I'd like to see a EU-wide minimum vegetable price guarantee funded by a swingeing levy on corn oil, refined sugar, refined syrups, processed fats and bleached grains.

Thats always the problem. Its the stepping stone theory.
You start off with what is presented as a good idea and get people to agree, as it only affects a small amount of people and the majority appear to benefit. You present this as the end point.

Once agreed you move on to the next "stepping stone" a minor increase in regulation/prohibition but it is also presented as affecting the minority and benefiting the majority and once again its presented as the end point.

repeat ad nauseum (invent/misrepresent/lie about "scientific data, use phrases such as "but think about the children, its for your own/everyones benefit, you have to be saved from yourself... remember you will not be allowed to make your own choice thats bad!!!!) until you get to total prohibition.
