I dunno. The article suggests that when he saw the iPhone he knew they'd missed a trick. I guess like a lot of other people he's underwhelmed by the iPad. Of course he's always going to favour Windows based netbooks though isnt he

I wouldn't call that a 'slamming', more like mild indifference. Which you'd sort of expect, really.

I get the feeling that once the iPad is in circulation, its use and market will be more evident. I think Apple have a far better idea of who is likely to have an iPad (outside of the usual suspects).

I think we are looking at a web device “for every one else”. This has been commented on here before - the people who don’t want to fuss with a computer. The iPad could well be the first of many “non computers” we see.

"It needs a stylus". Sorry Bill but if the finger swiping works well then styli will be a thing of the past.

A stylus is useful in certain situations. Apple have gone out of their way to un-stylus the PDA, and have done a good job of it. However, I find that in certain situations, a stylus is needed. I’m thinking about drawing and painting apps where the act of moving a pen/pencil is far better than wiggling a finger about.

Yes but the lack of keyboard did not harm the iPhone. I agree that there are circumstances where a stylus is beneficial, though not many.

What struck me was he seemed to be saying he wanted the iPad to be more like the tablets MS and their hardware-making associates have been miserably failing to get anyone to buy for about a decade...

"Come, Apple, Join us splashing around in the failpool! It's only been peed in occasionally."

In the case of the iPad, I don't think it's worth doing either. I really don't get the point of it.

Me neither but then I didn't and still don't see the point of a net book

It is a gimmick at the moment. I think that I will use it to access my music around the house and get information while in bed, more of a glorified remote but I think worth it.
