That's irrelevant. If anyone asked me my voting intentions I'd probably lie.

Vote where your head tells you. Don't think it will be wasted. I've voted Lib-Dem since 1984, and I've never felt it was a wasted vote.

I agree HK voting for either of the two main parties by default means that no-one else will ever get into power but by the same token, if you want to feel like your voice has actually been heard then only by voting for one of the two big parties will you either have won or lost. Voting for anyone else is an immediate loss with the country the way that it is now.

I think this year I will vote with my head, vote for the party I choose based on manifesto and if they lose, then they lose at least I won't be responsible for whatever c0ck-up does happen.

Sadly, that's horrible, but true.

But we've ended up in the mess we're in now simply because people don't think about what they're doing when they vote.

A lot of independent MP support organisations have been set up, and they're using the motto "Vote for a change". Your vote counts, whether you vote blue, red, green, yellow or sky-blue pink. Use it wisely.

This is the sort of thing that explains why it's important to vote wisely, and not just the way you or your parents always have.

There are 63 lib dem seats, proving they can win if people vote for them.

It's just a shame we don't have PR. It would so much more, er, representative.

Did they ask you? I doubt it - in which case, that's irrelevant.

My head says it's got to be one of the big two, because anything else is a waste.

That's fine, then. Just be prepared for me to point at you and tell everyone it was your fault if Mr Airbrush's crew wins.

That attitude will help. :P

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I'd suggest that most of the liberal voters would come from the labour camp, so at best the liberals would come second because a traditional Tory voter is highly-unlikely to vote liberal, so their vote will remain largely unchanged.

I think that's wrong TBH. The Westcountry used to be completely blue, it has all but turned gold in recent years.

Ignore the polls. Don‘t let them steer you into making a narrow choice - I truly believe that the function of the polls is to direct voting in a certain direction. If we had no polls, I wonder how an election would turn out.

The problem is that people want to be associated with a winner. They will inevitably gravitate towards one of the two biggest numbers on the polls. As noted here you either “win” or “lose”. It’s almost like a lottery in that scenario. You are picking a lottery number. It just so happens that your choice may influence the outcome.

I feel contrary to that - I know that there will be a rabble of muppets next time round, so it’s almost worth NOT voting for the big three parties just to say “well, I voted, but not for them,” when it all pancakes on their faces. And pancake it will.

I remember those “Don’t blame me, I didn’t vote Tory” badges in the 1980s. Do you? I may just have one kicking about back at my parents’ house.

If we had no polls there couldn't be an election. :P

Otherwise I agree with you. Just by measuring something you can change the value, and so if satirical TV shows aren't shown around election time (someone mentioned this recently in another thread) presumably because they can sway opinion, then shouldn't all electoral coverage be based on just what the candidate says they can do for us?
