Me - The Pope's resigned, ma.

Ma - What Pope?

Now she's an Ulster Protestant ;) , but do you see the idiocy I'm up against?

My cynical mind can't help wondering if he's getting out before a storm hits...

Not that it matters. The next one will still protect the ordained sex pests and continue to speak out against condoms in AIDS hotspots.

No doubt it will get shedloads of media cover - a pity really, considering it is (for most of the modern world) a non-event.

If this were any other "job" the headline would read: "Shock! Horror! 85 year old man retires!"

Speaking as a, (non practising) Roman Catholic can't we just accept the fact that he decided that he was in the words of Roger Murtaugh "getting too old for this sh1t"?

Tbf, Roger didn't spend most of his time surrounded by perverts, then allegedly covering up for them, dodging questions about the mafia etc.

Though he was linked to Mel Gibson

Well he was a Nazi

I think his reign as pope has been a total failure - he's done nothing to tackle family planning in Africa so now Aids there in some countries is out-of-control. He has done nothing to weed out the sex pests posing as priests and also tried to cover up the scandal about their finances being misappropriated by corrupt officials within Vatican.

He was a Nazi? He was born in 1927 would have been 18 at the end of WWII and spent almost all of his life (to that point) growing up in the shadow of Hitler's Germany. As much as I detest what he currently stands for, I can't bring myself to condemn him for being conscripted into the Hitler Youth at 14 and then into the German armed forces.

The question is, hypothetically of course, if he was a Nazi and a pedo, which would he admit to to cover up for the other

Nice to see the queen is doing thing properley rather than slacking off. It's been about 600 years since a pope quit.
