Remember, this is The United States of America, so what solution do you think someone has put forward to solving the oil leak problem?

Yup: high explosives. What is truly shocking is that it has taken this long for the former US military scientist to propose it.

Quote:
But Franz Gayl says that the explosion could effectively cauterise the well shutting off the flow of oil into the Gulf. However, he points out that, without detailed computer modelling, he is using educated guesswork.

Ohh - educated guesswork. That will work then, but then so did pumping mud, top hats and golf balls.

Here is another well documented use of explosives to remove a problem:

That was a great success. Go team!

I believe explosives have been used in Russia with some success, so I wouldn't discount the idea completely.

Russia offered that advice over a month ago... They said that a good sized nuclear warhead stuffed in the hole works in 7 out of 10 cases...

Certainly explosives have been used for a while to deal with outlets that have caught fire, the blast from the explosives removes all oxygen from the immediate area which extinguishes the flames.

They used nukes 5 times and it sealed the leaks but it meant that the remaining oil was unrecoverable. BP will not want to lose the oil. So it will never happen unless someone else takes the decision, and I bet BP will then sue the government for the lost oil revenue.

But then the US would be dependant on foreign supplies of bananas to feed the reactors.

Yes but the prof is clearly wearing sunglasses that the US describe as Eurotrash, so the professor must be using European beer on this occasion. :D

Don’t laugh, but somewhere back at my parents is a pair of dayglo pink sunglasses which Pizza Hut gave away during a Back To The Future II promotion when it first came out. Buy a pizza, get some crap sunglasses.

Just seen the news, with the head of BP getting a grilling again...

What really astonishes/confuses me, is that the company responsible for the mess has disappeared with the insurance money and left BP to take the rap. Why isn't anybody questioning the company who owned and ran the rig questions, or asking them to help clean up the problem they made?

Because that company is American and ther Americans have elections in November, thus they need a scapegoat and BP fits the bill.
I saw some of the grilling and its a good job I wasnt head of BP as my answers would of been so different. Especially when one of the Senators accused the BP guy of insulting his intelligence. My reply would of been " Sorry I didnt mean to do that, obviously mother nature has done enough without me pointing it out"
Congressional hearing, where two bit politicians get to act to the TV audiances under the disguise of doing there job.
