Probably the quickest way to go with least complications.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

What I did find surprising when I heard the report is that it is actually more expensive to execute somebody than it is to keep them in prison.

I was so surprised I had to rewind to double check.

So much for the 'execution is a cheap alternative' solution.

Depends..... If you keep them in prison and just starve them to death, for instance....

I suspect that only applies in places like the USA where they have a 'death row' scheme, which gives a fairly lengthy time period of incarseration under very different conditions to your average prisoner. I suspect in places like China or Britain when we still had the death penalty that there would be substantial differences because they don't have these huge gaps; people are / were normally executed within about a week of sentancing, not after a minimum of 10 years.

Trouble is if you bring back the death penalty the severity of crimes will increase as they know the consequences. As the severity increases, more and more will be up for execution which will end up creating a backlog like in the US.

Am I misunderstanding here, but to my knowledge the US doesn't have a back log of people for execution. The US has a policy that anyone sentenced to death gets 10 years in prison first in case further evidence comes to light...

Might as well not have the death penalty then.

Ah right, I get you now. I didn't know that.

You don't think that would happen here? That's the only way I could ever see it coming back, not that I can see it TBH.

How is a firing squad not 'cruel and unusual'? :?

Surely uncertain death is worse than certain death?

I'm fairly confident that death is usual in 100% of humans, eventually.
