Though you will need a 4k TV to enjoy the experience and the games will look blocky on such a screen since they will not be 4K.

Modern up-scaling on TVs is very good indeed. 720p or even SD actually looks better upscaled, not worse. Any 4K telly will have to get it right, or it just won't sell.

That wasn't the case when flat screens first came out, especially on cheaper models.

I was simply thinking along the lines of how many extra lines on the screen that there would be. I forgot about upscaling.

Also I would imagine that all the new 4k TV's will have upscaling in as they are certainly not cheap and upscaling technology is now prevalent and cheap so it would be stupid not to include.

It's not as if this is a problem simply for the future. You're now getting phones with 1080p screens, yes? I've got a few 1080p MP4 files of films and the minimum size any of the files are is about 20GB. How many people have more than 32GB of storage on their mobile phone? You're getting phones with 1080p screens where they're being sold at least partly on 'you can watch films on it in 1080p quality!' when what they mean is 'You can watch ONE film on it in 1080p quality. As long as you have no other data of any sort on your phone.' We're nowhere near the point where we can reliably stream Full HD content over the internet, even over wifi. So the only way to watch that level of content would be by having it on local storage. Which isn't up to the job yet either.

The whole thing is fatuous, They're selling people technology by telling them they need it, when in fact none of the underlying infrastructure is ready to supply the content the technology is there to show.

What's the point of 1080p on a phone anyway?

It is handy if you want to stream a film to a TV via Apple TV or something similar. Though since screens are close to HD resolution anyway even though they are small.

complete agree with this point. When there are parts of the country dealing with dialup and sub 2-megs speeds, there is no infrastructure. Look at 4G - high speeds at the mo (few users) but wonder what happens when take up increases. I imagine there will be bottle necked speeds!

Then most ISP's sell their access with caps, and 100Gb is well above most caps.

Team Meat 'not interested' in developing for next-gen

I'd guess Sony and MS do get on like utter cocks, but why overplay your hand now?

I think that consumers are happier with iPads and if you can easily develop for the iPad or tablets with existing kit. Then you could sell millions of copies without much effort via an App store without the need to manage a sales channel. Also the budgets for buying games will be smaller and that suits tablet games developers.

Next-gen Xbox dev kit points to 'always online'

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/39 ... ys-online/

I'll believe the 'Always on, no used games' thing when I see it. Monumentally dumb wouldn't even be the phrase to use.

Quote:
Disc media will be used for distribution, but during gameplay, games will not use content from the optical disc.

That would be good, assuming they have the wit to ship decent-sized HDD SKUs.

Always on is present in the latest StarCraft expansion. If this is the future then I am afraid that I will be buying few games and certainly no new console. Though will they patch the always on requirement to existing consoles to drive users on to the new consoles?

Yes but that is HMV who are trying to shift stock. This might be the work of the administrators. The fact that others are also trying to clear stock is a better sign of trouble.
