Why do you say that? It doesn't require a gen election if he resigns.

No, but the Labour party would be frakkin' stupid to assume they have any authority left or the will of the people behind them. The Labour party is divided and broken, it's not fit to govern any longer.

But what's that got to do with them calling a general election Id have thought its a very good reason for them not to call one. I'm not disagreeing with your sentiment. I still think we are 12 months off a general election unless something very strange happens.

I think that's like putting cassandra at the head of the trojan army when paris has already shagged helen, or the trojans are pouring out of the horse. Cable predicted this mess but I hardly think he is the one to solve it. People like vincey boy need to be in when times are good to stop it from going bad. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassandra_(metaphor)

I was talking about him as a potential PM, not solving the mess parliament has long been in

yes and I understood that . Right now we need a PM that can solve the economic downturn not one who can predict one.

But that's all I was saying at the time ie that he's about the only one I'd even consider because he seems honest and sensible - I wasn't even thinking of the economic crisis, just in general.

Well if they get rid of Gordon we will have to have an election as I read you cannot have 2 unelected PM's during the lifetime of a parliament in such circumstances - something about against the constitution - didn't think we had one?
I wish we would have PR re. voting as apathy is the only winner in a "safe" seat - current system is also not very democratic is it?

That's interesting, I've Googled it and you're not the only one to think that, anybody here know any different? I couldn't find anything definitive

Assuming that's it's not (unconstitutional - which to clarify, the UK most certainly does have a constitution, it's just that it's not codified) it would be a pretty poor show for Labour just to elect a new leader and carry on governing. If the government collapses, we should get a GE, end of. If Labour come fourth or worse today (Behind Tories, LDs and UKIP) I expect Broon to be gone by the end of next week.
