And that is all it should be. This has been blown massively out of proportion. Heaven forbid you privately voice an opinion that doesn't conform to the ever increasingly insane PC guidelines. Can't wait for the thought police to arrive.

Hang on. It is one thing, perhaps even mandatory these days, to hurl abuse at a male referee, impugning his ancestry or imply his habits have damaged his eyesight. It is quite another to imply someone is obviously unable to function simply because of their gender. There is no place for blatant misogyny in this day and age. The two commentators have apologised and their employers have taken some punitive action, and to all intents and purposes that's where the matter should rest.

No argument here. My point is, it wasn't blatant, it was a view expressed privately (or so they thought). However disagreeable you or I find it, people have and express opinions privately that they would not do in public. Any notions that TV personalities are whiter than white is naive in the extreme. All we can expect from them is that they conduct themselves properly in view of the public. Yes, they are a pair of bigots, but they were not broadcasting that message intentionally. Are they not allowed the freedom to speak their minds in privacy? As my uncle would say "you have every right to speak your mind, in fact, I would fight for your right to be wrong".

I agree. I am not saying he should get sacked over what he said this weekend. I am saying he should get sacked because he is one arrogant idiot that is full of himself. Sometimes I have tu put games on mute just to make them bearable! Andy Gray is not only very anti-sp*rs, he is anti-everything that is not him. He is only pro-himself!! One smug c*nt

Agreed. They might have learned from this. Hopefully.

Learned what though? I'm sure they'll keep the same sexist attitudes towards female officials as lets be honest they we're just giving their opinion (no matter how wrong I think it was). The only thing they will have learned is to not get caught again.

While I also agree with your uncle, don't you think such views should have died out by now? We're not in the 1950s any more.

But a major thing for them.

Both these men will have been brought up and educated in a time when a sexist viewpoint was the norm. People rarely change totally in their viewpoint, once they believe it to be true (for any given value of truth) but generally what happens is that they disguise it.

Andy Gray SackedApparently there are about five different audio/video clips coming down the pipes of him doing or saying things that are absurdly sexist or misogynist and Sky have decided he's just not worth the continuing hassle. Jon

Yes I do think we should have moved on by now though, clearly, Andy Gray was never going to. I'm sure he'll get Max Clifford, or someone else of that ilk, to spin it around and sell millions of copies of the inevitable book - probably entitled "poor me" or "a cautionary tale".

Clearly not a one off incident. Probably no loss to commentary.

I'll bet you a pound to a penny that he still tries to sue Sky for his wages.

Course he will, given he was apparently on a contract worth £1.7m a year. And given he was sacked in a rather... abrupt way he may well have a chance - his behaviour was undoubtedly idiotic and insulting but generally speaking people don't get summarily sacked for that; they get told off. Depends if what he has done could be construed as 'gross misconduct'. Jon
