Considering the number of cans that ernie drinks do you think he is counting them as part of his five-a-day?

Is sugar more or less harmful that artificial sweeteners?

It depends how much you consume. Personally, I think I'd rather have sugar occasionally instead of sweeteners occasionally. I choose not to consume large amounts of either. I think human trials are rather difficult for this kind of thing given the laws about killing people and stuff. At the moment, no one has really established a safe level for either. In general terms though, it is gluttony which is bad for you. Moderation in all things is invariably the healthy choice. Over 80% of Americans are gluttons and they have the diseases to prove it. Britain is just a few years behind, but leading the way in Europe...

I’d agree with this. The difficulty here is that it’s hard to fight natural instinct. Out bodies are geared for life on the Savannah, where four square meals a day is not guaranteed. You see food, and this kicks in - eat as much as you can. The primitive brain overrides the more rational part at a fairly root level.

This is absolutely true. However, we do overcome our primitive instincts all the time. We think before we act. You can't just take what you want. Society demands a level of social responsibility. If I just did what I wanted then I'd be a psychopathic murderer, thief, rapist, arsonist and a fat bastard to boot. Self control and social etiquette is how you distinguish higher life forms.

I'm already a "schizophrenic drug-crazed psychotic axe murder" so what's a bit of sugar gonna do that I'm not already? Mark
