Me too. I don't really see that. The trains are full to capacity as it is and the service is generally... rather poor. So saying 'you might get a few more customers' doesn't seem an obvious mechanism for improvement. What might is the people running the train companies getting fined/sacked/imprisoned if they don't come up to scratch in a lateness/sustained bad service/not paying for maintenance which gets people killed in a train crash kind of way. I've been told several times by my employer that 'home working' isn't an option. The form of stored energy in my car isn't going to make any difference to that. Jon

I'm not. Not battery powered electric ones anyway. Poor range, long recharge times, environmentally costly to build (the batteries). Hydrogen powered fuel cells are the way forward. They almost have the range of a petrol car and they can be fully refueled in minutes. Much more practical.

yes fining the rail companies so that there is actually capacity for extra commuters is worth doing. Though unlikely as this government will do nothing for the duration of their term. I accept that home working is not viable for everyone. I was thinking more along the lines of finding work closer to home or moving closer to work. Either way their will be big costs.

"Scuse me, I tend to mean 'cars driven by electric motors'. In this sense, fuel cell cars are electric cars. Battery powered cars, yeah, bit of a dead end IMO. Jon

If you mean extra trains, it can't happen because big chunks of the track have no more capacity The only way to get extra trains on the network in any real numbers is to build more track.

Dr Beeching must be spinning in Hell over that suggestion.

Or longer platforms. They may not be able to run more trains for safety reasons, but they could run longer ones.
