Indeed. Sky/ESPN will attempt to plaster their brand on the screen as often as possible to make as much of the broadcast 'copyright' as possible. What in fact will happen is the current trend for people getting their 'pirate feed' via the Internet rather than through a dish will only accelerate. This ruling does nothing to either stop or aid that trend. As streaming and broadband services improve so people will cease bothering with satellite decoders altogether. It's a ruling that is already late and in five years will be already antiquated.

The ruling re: pubs is interesting now but again will be obsolete soon. A pub showing the game on a big screen tv is one thing, but what can they do about a pub with wifi ( which is a completely legit service to offer) and a URL on a chalkboard? If one person per table has an tablet, why do you need the tv?

As always, the broadcasters themselves are way behind the public.

Actually with the possibility that there will be teh ability to stream from the iPad to an Apple TV then what is to stop a Sky customer with an iPad and legal Sky subscription forwarding it to a pub Apple TV and their 50" plasma?

Aiding and abetting the circumvention of copyright?
Has the European copyright directive/regulation been passed yet?

Of course it doesn't effect me anyway. When there's sport on down the pub, I'd rather watch something else in the comfort of my home with a bottle of something decent.

I am affected in any way. Not watching Football has been a money saver. My concerns are for those that love the game, and are priced out.

Well I for one wouldn't want to be typing in my iTunes account details one letter at a time on a 'soft' keyboard on a 50' TV in front of an entire pub full of people, for one thing .

However, I have the SkyGo app, hold on...

No, it looks like they've disabled airplay 'throwing' in the SkyGo app. So you couldn't do it over wifi to an AppleTV. That could be because there are no airplay receivers on my work wifi network though, I'll try it again when I get home. You still might be able to display it direct on the telly with an iPad 2 and the HDMI adapter either way though.

You'd still be breaking copyright restrictions obviously. As a residential customer, your access to the content is on a private consumer basis only.

Shame about that. I was thinking of getting an Apple TV and using Air Video to 'throw' it to an Apple TV off my 24Hour machine. That is my main interest today (20 minutes time)

Affect?

I always get confused by that. The dictionary definitions usually leave my even more confused. For example; is this correct use of effect as a verb?

"Sky hoped to effect change within the pub community by giving all landlords free sports subscriptions."

There's a whole website about this - http://www.affectvseffect.org/

As for the football shiznit, couldn't give two hoots frankly. Hopefully the knock effect will be that grown men will be paid less for kicking a ball. You know, something slightly more realistic. Like a plate of oranges at half time.
