Some Bluray players can uscale DVD's. I wonder if 8k disc players could upscale Blu Rays?

I would imagine that without that feature they will struggle to sell the format.

I'm going to have to replace our very old TV soon and I'd definitely be interested in a 3D TV now that there are more movies being released for that format.

I'm wondering how old the very old TV actually is?

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Well probably only really old by tech standards. :) It's a big CRT lump I took over from my sister when she got a flatscreen TV. And it was second-hand back then.

do have to wonder for how long though, and are many of them films you'd actually want to buy?

Well there's Resident Evil: Retribution for a start. :P

Well I've got Zoolander and I've seen Fifth Element and none of her other movies interest me.

Not sure I'd go that far. It's not as bad as the slagging it got at release and it looks great but there are problems too (*cough*Tricky*cough*). Well worth the two hours of your time but it's no Demolition Man.

He's probably right, but I really don't see Google being able to make a dent in the schedules :|

I think that the media business are worried about any of the new rumoured TV services from Apple or Google to be quite frank.

4k will be a problem for consumers. What about their DVD and Blu ray collections? Will they opt for another media format or simply stick with what they have. I might mean that streaming becomes the only option and that depends on the broadband backbone. It could go any direction.

4K will probably come to BDXL which does (just) have sufficient capacity, and likely there will be some cross-compatibility:

Quote:
By 2005, quad-layer (128 GB) discs had been demonstrated on a drive with modified optics[60] and standard unaltered optics.[61] Hitachi stated that such a disc could be used to store 7 hours of 32 Mbit/s video (HDTV) or 3 hours and 30 minutes of 64 Mbit/s video (Cinema 4K).
