Well, the one thing you possibly could complain about is that nobody actually voted for or against it, since it wasn't in any of the party manifestos. Whether you agree passing the bill is a good thing or not (personally, I do) I'm somewhat disconcerted by putting through a bill about an issue they didn't talk about in the election that isn't really time-sensitive at all.

If they planned to do it, they should have said so, if they didn't plan to do it,why have they done it? What has caused them to decide it needed doing?

Neither was dismantling the NHS and welfare state, both of which seem to have garnered far less mainstream media coverage than yesterday's distraction.

One good thing may come it, though: the Conservative Party has shown it is not "modernised" in any way, shape or form, and is hopefully destined for more decades in the wilderness come May 2015 - along with their cohorts the Lib Dems, and with any luck Labour, too. Monster Raving Loonies FTW!

My MP voted for it. Well he would have signed his own resignation slip if he had voted against it. The constituency has one of the highest concentration of gays in the world. Reports of 25% of the constituency are gay.

Remember - this still has to get through the House of Lords. It’s not law yet, and there are a number of CofE types in there who may well be opposed to that sort of thing.

There is always the Parliament Act. It can be forced through as the will of the people.

Yeah, but in general the votes in the Lords seem to reflect public opinion more than the votes in the house of commons.
I doubt the Lords will block it.
The current issue is the exact wording of the law etc when it goes through the commons again. All that's happened now is MP's have agreed in principle to the law.
