Saw a comment from some gun-mad Yank who seems to be a friend of a friend who basically posted something along the lies of “How long before liberals try to ban bombs?”. There are some truly crazy-mad people there.

There was a survey some years ago about rights. Some 47% of gun owning Republicans thinks the constitution guarantees their right to buy explosive fertiliser.

During a live news conference currently on the BBC website, doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital have said that the devices appear to have been nailbombs and that some victims have 30 or 40 pieces of sharp metal (probably nails) and other shrapnel in them.

The design appears to be to maim as many as possible with lots of missing limbs being reported.

From all the reports it is sounding more like internal terrorism rather than external.

That was my feeling. This week seems to be the anniversary of many domestic terrorism events.

A possible breakthrough? From the BBC:

Quote:
Investigators are preparing to arrest a suspect in relation to Monday's Boston marathon bombings, officials have told US media. The breakthrough reportedly came from security video of a man dropping off a bag on the street near the race's finish line, before walking away.

The image of the suspect came from surveillance video recorded at a department store across the street from the site of the second blast, CNN reported. The Boston Globe newspaper reported that a surveillance camera at the Lord & Taylor store had provided police with clear footage of the area.

More here.

Update: Whoever the suspect is he has been arrested by the FBI.

Update: Now they are denying they've arrested anybody. I give up.

Thanks to the help of researchers posting on 4Chan

With sources like that, how could anyone possibly doubt their findings?

The US news networks are spouting loads of rubbish because they need to fill airtime. "Some one has been arrested" / "not identified" / etc.

Updates from the BBC Live:

1300: Deval Patrick, Governor of Massachusetts: suspect one is dead and suspect two is on the run.
1256: Police are still hunting Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, aged 19, from the Cambridge area of Boston.
1255:BREAKING NEWS Surviving Boston bombing suspect named by US officials as Dzokhar Tsarnaev.
1254: Reuters news agency now joins several other US media outlets in reporting that the two Boston suspects are Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Reuters cites a national security official. We still await official confirmation.

There's a huge manhunt going on in Boston and the surrounding area, sparked off by a shooting at M.I.T.

Heard reports about that this morning, sounded pretty extreme. Significant amounts of gunfire and a couple of explosions? One policeman fatally wounded was one thing they said.

You know how things go when that happens, Once a suspect kills a policeman, especially in the US, the rest tend to shoot first and ask questions later.

Yes, the police are telling citizens to stay off the streets and people in the area who are contributing to the BBC Live Feed say it's like a ghost town. One guy heard shooting and took cover and found that a bullet had come through his wall and straight through the chair he'd previously been sitting on. It would be good if they can capture Tsarnaev alive but it does look unlikely.
