A lot of women are. Remember than a lot also were raised being told that science, playing music, sci-fi (AKA non pink stuff) is all "man stuff". Up to not that long ago it was all sorted in shops into "women's interest" and "men's lifestyle". I read wired and cinema mags by I won't buy them from shops where they are in the men's section out of principle. I should not have to look at naked women to find the magazine I want.

The magazines I'd criticise in that regard are the 'mainstream gadget mags', T3 and Stuff. They often have a model on the cover - usually fully clothed to give them their due, but women who have little to do with the content of the mag nevertheless -and when (I think) T3 were picked up on it on their letters page by a vicar who felt a bit embarrassed buying the mag, their excuse was "If we don't have a woman on the cover we would get put on the shelf with Amateur Radio News and Home Electronics Projects, whereas we want to be on the same shelf as the likes of Empire". At the time I thought that was a fairly pathetic excuse and I still do. They can certainly design covers that are obviously not in that 'niche hobbyist' bracket without resorting to the lazy cliche of a woman holding some phone or camera. The obvious ones like FHM and Loaded (is that even still going?) I don't excuse but they are what they are. It's obvious they shouldn't be front of your shop if you have half an ounce of sense. I can't imagine that kind of publication is long for this world anyway.

TBH IMO lads mags are a bit outdated. I used to read them in that void before the internet got going in our house (c. 2001). Then I stopped. If I wanted to look at girls, I'd look online. If I wanted tech info, I could find more indepth analysis online. If I wanted jokes, I'd read them for free. Ditto with music/film/games reviews.
There's very little they offer these days. In fact, they're only useful if you have no or limited internet access.

I read (past sense) Wired because I got a free copy on my tablet. It was quite interesting, but I wouldn't buy one.
There were also a few general interest mags , but I generally found them to contain nothing of interest.
I also got a free copy of a certain "Lad's Mag" and it was mostly full of near-naked men with heaving muscles advertising steroids. I really don't want to look at that. I think it projects an unrealistic and harmful image to vulnerable young men, and quite frankly such imagery should be banned from public view.
It's similar to the skinny models you find in Elle, although it seems these magazines do sell so I guess that's what "normal" people want to look at. Maybe I shouldn't criticise it. I don't generally prove of censorship. After all, I can choose not to take any notice...

Imagine that here. It is a bogus excuse. Look at places where porn is easily available such as Scandinavia, and they have a lower rate of sexual crimes (excluding Julian Assange ) than elsewhere. Education is one solution but that takes time. Early intervention in domestic assaults will also change attitudes.
