Good on him. That takes some balls, especially at his age.

Shame our government is doing nothing about it. Just heard Malcolm Rifkind on the Today show podcast and he seems to condone it for protecting the public.

I will give the government the benefit of the doubt over this. The PM might be deliberately kept in the dark so that he can honestly claim no knowledge of the actual workings. I am sure that they will follow anyone in this country with every available technology if they become of interest. The security bods knew all about the Woolwich killers and even tried to recruit him. The NSA is probably keeping a list of all yours and my contacts to see if they intersect with any known terrorist, and also those links to US citizens. Just because they now have the technology to do it.

That takes some balls, especially knowing what kind of prison sentences the Americans give out for that soft of thing.

Then if you consider his salary, he was on a good wage compared to most. Becoming a whistleblower would not guarantee him any sort of protection especially since the US government under Obama has been particularly determined to prosecute whistleblowers.

This thing could wind up costing the politicians their jobs if they can't put enough distance between them and the spying

3) Share with just the CIA

This is odd. It seems OK for private companies to data mine your FaceBook/Google etc. input. No one seems that fussed, despite the fact that this is information that you would never give a bloke on the street with a clipboard. Result: vaguely targeted adverts.

When it gets out that the VERY SAME THINGS are being done by governments, the world implodes because people seem to be somewhat upset by the idea that The State is getting their cat pictures.

On some level people believe that only people with a genuine interest are viewing their stuff, otherwise it just sits on an uncaring computer (server) they don't care about. When it looks like shady people they don't know are doing it as a matter of course... also, you know, the politicians you never trusted in the first place enabling it because they're so excited by a whiff of intrigue etc.
