I really like Sarah Millican on various shows, but the scripting on her TV chat show is appalling. Her interviews are just setting up the guests for crap one-liners.

It gets 3 out of 10 on TVguide so its not just me!

I like Sarah Millican on QI (on the one show I've seen with her in it) and I like her stand-up but I've never seen any of her tv shows so I can't comment.
I've only ever come across Miranda Hart when she's been covering a DJ on Radio 2 in the mornings and from only those few appearances I know I don't like her.

That programme annoys me. The editing to me feels “lumpy”. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it is obvious that as far as the audience is concerned, the standup bits all happen in one go, and the rest is recorded either before or after - hence all that timed walking to centre stage after each segment. Also far too many cutaways to tatty lampshades. I much prefer chat shows (and panel shows) where the editing is fluid and there isn‘t some kind of contrived choreography from either the talent, camera work or editing to ensure that certain things are in frame.

My wife says that humour is basically “hen night humour”. So that’s a thumbs down from both of us here.

Agree on the Millican show, it's painful to watch for all the reasons mentioned.

There are less female comedians than male ones, but IMO the percentages of both populations that are funny is roughly equal.

I think that the reason relatively few do stand up is that it can be brutal and who really wants that? A few female comedians have complained how gladiatorial Mock the Week is.

If it's funny, I'll laugh. Does it matter if the gag came from a man or a woman?

Sarah Millican's stand up work is pretty good, but I have never rated comedians' TV shows. I don't mean Mock the Week, QI, Would I Lie to You or whatever, rather those pseudo-funny talk shows - Alan Partridge and the like - they are uniformly awful.

I'm getting away from my initial point, which is I'm not sure why Miranda Hart is considered funny, because I think she's a talentless hack.

Same here. There are some very funny women. French and Saunders to name two.

Mock the week is only comedians. QI can some weeks only have Alan Davies along side some other entertainers, so not really a comedian show.

I think it might also be a middle class thing. Nothing against that if it is genuinely funny, but like Miles Jupp not that funny.

Miles Jupp is hilarious. As is Simon Evans.

I like Miles Jupp too. Evans is good but I don't know how many times I've seen him do the same routine recently.
